Botox
When it comes to diminishing fine lines and dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions, injectables like Botox deliver natural looking results for a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance. SculptMED Aesthetics is pleased to offer three effective treatment options including Botox, Dysport and Xeomin.
These injectables minimize the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscles with little to no downtime. Patients love seeing the results in areas like worrisome crow’s feet or forehead lines.
Overview of Injectables
Injectables like wrinkle relaxers contain ingredients like neurotoxins that weaken and temporarily relax muscle activity in the face and neck. Neuromodulators are considered safe and have been part of the aesthetic and beauty scene since receiving FDA approval in 2002.
At SculptMED Aesthetics, we design customized plans for our patients based on their specific cosmetic concerns. By understanding their goals and assessing their facial features, we can determine if Botox, Dysport or Xeomin will be the most well-suited injectable for optimal results.

Botox
Botox, short for botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is widely used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Botox works by temporarily blocking nerve signals in the muscles where it is injected, preventing them from contracting. As a result, it helps to smooth out wrinkles and lines caused by repetitive facial expressions like frowning or squinting.
Botox injections reduce muscle contractions by blocking the signals from nerves to muscles. When the injected muscles aren’t able to contract as tightly, the skin relaxes and softens, improving the wrinkle. Botox can also prevent new wrinkles from forming and is used as a preventative treatment in younger populations but it can also help existing wrinkles from deepening and worsening.
Dysport
Dysport is a form of botulinum toxin type A. Similar to Botox and Xeomin, Dysport is used for cosmetic purposes to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. It is injected into specific facial muscles to reduce muscle activity and, consequently, diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
The mechanism of action of Dysport is comparable to Botox—it temporarily blocks nerve signals in the muscles, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles. Some individuals may experience a quicker onset of action with Dysport compared to Botox, with results becoming noticeable within a few days after treatment.
Xeomin
Xeomin is a prescription medication that contains incobotulinumtoxinA, a type of botulinum toxin. Like Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is used for cosmetic purposes to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. It is an injectable treatment that works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles, resulting in a smoother appearance of the skin.
One notable feature of Xeomin is that it is a “naked” or “pure” form of botulinum toxin, meaning it lacks complexing proteins present in some other formulations. This characteristic may reduce the likelihood of antibody formation, potentially affecting how the body responds to the treatment over time.
Target Treatment Areas
While Botox, Dysport and Xeomin all work similarly by temporarily paralyzing or weakening targeted muscles to smooth wrinkles, they have subtle differences in their formulations and diffusion properties. Here’s a breakdown of their target areas and considerations:
Botox
Botox is commonly used to treat forehead lines, frown lines (between the eyebrows), and crow’s feet (around the eyes). It can also be used for lip lines, chin dimpling, and neck bands.
Dysport
Dysport is also used to treat forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Some practitioners prefer Dysport for larger treatment areas, such as the forehead, due to its broader diffusion.
Xeomin
Xeomin is commonly used for treating frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. It can also be used for other facial wrinkles.
FAQs
As long as you are in good overall health and have moderate to severe facial wrinkles or folds in areas that injectables can treat, like around or between the eyes, the forehead, the neck and mouth, you should see your desired results from Botox, Dysport or Xeomin.
Botox is used to restore a more rested, youthful appearance to the face or neck . It can address and ease issues like fine lines, wrinkles and folds.
The appeal of cosmetic injections like Botox, Dysport and Xeomin is that it provides quick results with virtually no recovery period. Most patients can immediately return to their normal activities.
Some patients may experience minor bruising or swelling at the injection site which is temporary. To lower the risk of bruising, we may advise you not to consume alcohol the night before your appointment. We are happy to answer any questions about your injections during your appointment, so you feel prepared and comfortable
The number of treatments needed and the frequency of those treatments depend on your body chemistry, medical history, and desired results. Like most injectable treatments, wrinkle relaxers are part of an ongoing beauty regimen, which means it isn’t a permanent solution and will require follow-up visits which is typically every 3-4 months.
